Play tic tac toe 2 player with friends
Two ways to play tic tac toe with a friend on this site. Both work directly in your browser — no signup, no download, no app store detour.
Same device — pass and play
- Open tictactoe2player.online.
- From the header menu, pick Local.
- The first player taps a cell. The second taps the next. Repeat.
The fastest path to a tic tac toe 2 player match. The per-player scoreboard tracks both sides automatically, so a best-of-five takes care of itself.
Online — over a shareable invite link
- Pick Online from the mode menu.
- Tap Copy link and send it on WhatsApp, Discord, SMS, or email.
- When your friend opens the link in their browser, the match starts.
The connection is peer-to-peer over WebRTC, so moves travel directly between the two browsers — no game server in the middle and no matchmaking queue. If the connection drops, both players see a reconnect prompt.
Tips for a sharper 2 player game
- X plays first. The convention since the game was invented in ancient Egypt.
- Centre touches four winning lines. Take it if you're X.
- Two threats from one move is a "fork". Set one up and you win on the next turn — block your opponent's forks the same way.
- Mix who plays X each round. With optimal play every game is a draw, so the rivalry lives in who slips first.
Playing remotely on the same network?
Online mode works fine on the same Wi-Fi — WebRTC just sets up the shortest path between the two browsers. Useful when two people are at the same desk but want each their own device.
